Panasonic is set to launch a new premium digital compact camera, the DMC-LX7, as part of its LX series.

The DMC-LX7 features a number of redesigned elements,  the lens, image sensor and image processing engine, along with a number of other functions to provide creative freedom and high quality results.

The newly designed 24mm ultra-wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens, has 3.8x optical zoom, to give the equivalent of 24-90mm in a standard 35mm camera, with brightness very high brightness of F1.4 to F2.3. The lens has been designed to give high resolution images with minimal distortion and artifacts, with Panasonic’s Black Box Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes light reflection to reduce ghost and flare, while Intelligent Resolution and Intelligent Zoom extends zoom up to 7.5x while maintaining quality. POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) is integrated to suppress hand-shake vibration for shooting at slow shutter speeds.

The processor in the DMC-LX7 is also a new design, a 1/1.7-inch 10.1-megapixel MOS Sensor, which is capable of high sensitivity recording, even into low ISO settings.

The new sensor has high speed digital signal output technology, for high speed consecutive shooting at 11fps in full resolution with mechanical shutter, and 5fps with continuous AF. The processor is also capable of recording full HD 60p NTSC or 50p PAL video, and has high speed AF to quickly capture shots.

The external design of the camera has also been designed for optimal results, with aperture ring for direct control of aperture, internal ND filter that makes it possible to reduce light in use at slower shutter speed; hot shoe to attach advanced accessories, and a 3 inch, 920,000-dot high resolution Intelligent LCD screen, which has also been redesigned.

The DMC-LX7 also features 16 filters of Creative Control and Photo Style to give photographers a range of options for shooting.

“The LX7 with its neoclassical design is a versatile camera that is ideal for the professional photographer looking for that definitive second camera and for the amateur user who has been yearning for a great upgrade for many years,” commented Hitesh Ojha, deputy general manager – Digital Imaging Group, Panasonic marketing Middle East and Africa.
