NME Awards 2012
By  Georgina Enzer Published  July 10, 2012

The eighth annual Network Middle East Innovation Awards 2012, were a resounding success, with a wide range of companies chosen carefully by the judges scooping top honours in the 20 categories. The categories spanned implementation projects, vendor solutions and outstanding individual contributions.

From the Best Cabling Vendor of the year, to the hotly contested Networking Professional of the year, we had an impressive line-up of leading network companies and individuals that submitted nominations this year.

The awards provide an annual opportunity for Network Middle East to review the last year, and recognise and reward those companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the networking industry in the Middle East and its development in a challenging environment. Since the launch of Network Middle East in 1995, the industry has stormed ahead in ways we could never have imagined 20 years ago.

Hot networking trends such as BringYour Own Device, cloud, wireless and virtualisation are increasingly taking centre-stage and we are now entering the age of IPv6, something that was just the beginning of a concept in 1995. Our industry is helping enterprises and companies across the globe to grow bigger and better, while reducing IT costs and supporting essential business processes.

With these awards, we honoured those organisations and individuals in the Middle East who have contributed to the progression and development of the region’s networking industry.

I would also like to thank our panel of judges who worked tirelessly to assess the  nominations and to select worthy winners. This year, the judges were:

- Fijo George, 2011’s Network Middle East Networking Professional of the year and senior IT Infrastructure Architect at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority

- Hadi Raad, principal analyst at Booz & Co

- Anand Rangachary, managing director, South Asia & Middle East Frost & Sullivan
It’s never easy selecting the winners and in a number of categories the judges decisions were very close.

I would also like to thank our sponsors for the night, Gold sponsors HP, ComGuard, Kaspersky Lab and Chatsworth Products International, our Silver sponsors Data Park Oman, Optimus, Palo Alto and Allied Telesys and our category sponsor YouBook.

Highlights of the night included the Networking Professional of the Year Award, which was won by Tariq Al Hawi from AECert. Judges unanimously voted him into the top spot, citing his immense contributions to the UAE’s development and progress on the technology front and his interaction and encouragement of the younger IT generation.

Another hotly contested category was that of Best Systems Integrator of the Year, which acknowledges the technology partner that has truly gone beyond the call of duty in implementing new and innovative enterprise technologies that enable new IT strategies. The judges unanimously voted for help AG for growth in its regional business and service offerings, as well as multiple initiatives and solutions for its customers.
