Cameroon's voice revenues worth $1.3bn by 2017
It is estimated that voice revenues in Cameroon will hit $1.3bn by 2017; mobile data too is gaining ground due to the introduction of 3G services and operator competition
Pyramid research has said that it expects voice services to be the core telecom revenue generator in Cameroon.
Mobile voice revenues are forecasted to amount to $1.3bn by 2017. Data services are gaining popularity too and are becoming an important source of revenue generation. The deployment of a 3G mobile network and new competition from MVNOs are drivers that could lower prices and encourage more mobile adoption.
"The telecom market in Cameroon is currently a duopoly of mobile services and a monopoly of fixed services, but recent activity will change this configuration," says Ronda Zelezny-Green, Associate Research Analyst at Pyramid Research.
Pyramid Research thinks that mobile data revenue could grow quickly at a CAGR of 37.3% and could draw in $233m in revenues by 2017. The fixed segment will see an increase too, primarily because of the expansion of WiMAX networks, deployment of 4G and new fibre optic rollouts by the government.
