What were the company’s milestones in 2011?
Last year, we continued to be the preferred CPU supplier in the channel representing both AMD and Intel. In addition to this, we managed to grow our value business and opened full-fledged retail operations with most point of sale (POS) outlets across the region.
What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2012?
We have continued as Asbis to focus on growing our value business which is still in its infancy. We want to cement our position and continue to be the preferred distributor for components.
What is the most pressing distribution issue?
At present, the political instability especially in Egypt has had profound effect on the rest of the North Africa market. Closer to the GCC trouble in Syria and instability in Iraq is still affecting business in the channel.
Has the Middle East distribution sector recovered from the downturn?
The distribution sector is recovering from the 2009 global financial meltdown although the political upheaval is dragging these gains back.
Verdict: In a year that saw the components supply chain get affected by floods in Thailand, Asbis managed to help its partners to mitigate the effects of these natural disasters. The company has continued to build its retail and value business and cemented its footprint in key markets like KSA in the GCC region.
