What were the company’s milestones in 2011?

Initiating our Lenovo relationship regionally and Samsung’s entry into Iraq are some of the highlights for last year. In addition, we managed to get Xerox into Iraq, while Emitac Distribution regionally expanded to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2012?

We would like to grow our business in Saudi Arabia significantly and expand into Africa, develop Iraq and attract new vendor partners.

What is the most pressing distribution issue at the moment in the region?

It has to be the negative growth in the United Arab Emirates channel market.

Has the Middle East distribution sector recovered from the global economic meltdown of three years ago?

In a regional sense, yes it has. However, political risk and instability has weighed heavily on the regional distribution’s market growth and continues to negatively influence overall performance in the market.

Verdict: Having dropped in sales in 2010 as a direct result of the company’s restructuring exercise, the ‘new’ Emitac Distribution has bounced back with a solid showing. The company has brought in new members in the top management team as it continues to broaden its horizons with a value-added distribution spin to its traditional broadline business.
