What were the company’s milestones in 2011?
Last year, Almasa IT Distribution enhanced its operations and effectively launched Almasa Value Distribution as a standalone entity. We also successfully addressed the growth of our existing business, as well as new market opportunities in vertical sectors and geographies including Iraq.
What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2012?
Our strategy for 2012 is focused on leveraging our distribution network in our existing markets to increase market share and grow our regional footprint by expanding our distribution channel into new and adjacent markets.
What is the most pressing distribution issue?
It has to be liquidity. The big challenge for the industry as a whole is that there are so many players, and that puts pressure on margins.
Has the distribution sector recovered from the recession?
The unpredictable nature of the market has an impact on everyone’s business. Many companies took this chance to evaluate and refocus on growth going forward.
Verdict: Almasa’s move to consolidate its broadline distribution business may have contributed to the dip in sales revenues this year, but the company has continued on the value path. In 2011, Almasa unveiled its value business as a standalone unity to help it transition into the VAD arena. With a solid value foundation in place, Almasa is aiming to build a lucrative and profitable operation.
