Metra’s main highlights in 2011 included growing the company’s portfolio of partners by adding new vendors. We also expanded our footprint in the Gulf region and KSA.

Our strategic plans this year are geared towards growth, which we will attain through vertical expansion by selling more solutions that reach distant and less served markets across the region.

The regional distribution issues are always the same, for now, profitability and growth strategies remain a pressing issue.

Has the Middle East distribution sector recovered from the downturn?

The Middle East is one of the fastest growing regions globally and despite the economic meltdown in 2009, it possess a lot of attractive components, be it the oil resource, youth, high purchasing power and tendency to adopt technology as the accelerator for development.

Verdict: Metra Computer’s overall revenues slipped last year suggesting that the market in the region has continued to be volatile. As one of the few regional distributors with a strong presence in its home base in Egypt, the effects of the political turmoil in that country may have added to the difficulties the company experienced in 2011.
