What’s your career history to date? How did you end up working in Dubai?

With dual nationalities, British and Taiwanese, I had the opportunity to study at Glasgow University in Scotland. I have more than 20 years global experience in sales roles in IT hardware and consumer. I relocated from the UK to Dubai in 2010. Currently, I am working at Top Tech FZC as a head of Business Development for MEA.

If you could improve one thing about the channel business what would it be?

It has to be the relationship between vendors and distributors is to understand various ways of doing business. The way people do business in Nigeria is different to how business is conducted in Iraq, Egypt or Jordan. The methods of doing business regarding international trade are different from country-to-country. Having in-depth knowledge about consumers and the market is vital for the channel.

What product or technology should the channel watch out for this year?

There are several technologies although iPod, tablet and smartphone applications have been more popular in the last two to three years. LED low power consumption related products and solar technology is garnering momentum and it’s an area the channel should be looking at.

What is your proudest career achievement to date?

I am always passionate about technology and innovation. It is a part of my life. I am curious about the latest technology offerings from global vendor. With my years of experience in international business, one of my proudest achievement has been to develop new business for Top Tech especially in West Africa.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

I was taught quite early in my career to value team spirit and collective responsibility. People are an asset and developing talent is the best for resellers.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made since working in the IT market?

Making mistakes is human nature, as it’s through mistakes that one learns and is able to improve. I would like to point out that having lived in different regions and encountered different cultures and consumer behaviour, one requires understanding of the local market.

Which IT company, other than your own, do you most admire and why?

It has to be Amazon. it’s one of the best websites for me as it provides various product lines to suit the visitor’s needs.

What is the biggest challenge facing the Middle East IT channel?

Identifying the right markets, channels and selecting suitable strategic business partners are key elements to business growth in the Middle East. Although it takes time to develop business, being patient and investing time will yield the desired outcome.

What’s your favourite thing about the company you work for?

My current workplace has a friendly environment and people support each other quite well. It is a wonderful feeling to be a part of a ‘big’ family.

What sort of interests do you have outside of work?

I love working out as I am a very sporty person. I was once the champion of long distance running at the age of 15. I go to the gym regularly to have ongoing advanced weight training with my personal trainer at least twice a week.
