Pearson in Practice targets graduates Firth says the company wants to help individuals to gain 'job ready' knowledge and skills.

Six months after Pearson in Practice opened its first academy in Dubai's Knowledge Village, the IT training provider has revealed that it plans to increase its footprint in the region by working closely with higher learning institutions.

The move comes as the company plans to increase the pool of university and college graduates with 'job ready' knowledge and skills needed to secure employment in the IT sector.

Pearson in Practice says its wants to fully establish the UAE Academy in Dubai, before opening further academies in other parts of the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and Turkey.

Richard Firth, regional director, Middle East at Pearson in Practice, said the company's key target is to help people gain 'job ready' knowledge and skills to secure work and contribute to the regional IT industry. Firth said working with industry, Pearson in Practice has a reputation and track record of achieving this in all of its academies. "We will provide people with core skills and a broad platform of education through our internationally recognised BTEC Extended Diploma IT Programmes, supplemented by in demand additional international certifications such as CompTIA's A + programme," he said.

Firth believes that there is a market in the UAE for quality education and training where learners walk away from their learning and development programme with skills that will make a difference to the individual and employers they work for in the IT sector.

He added that in the UAE, Pearson in Practice is expanding its programme portfolio, to include new additional IT certification programmes such as CompTIA's Cloud Essentials, and broadening the range to include development of key skills areas such as Business Admin and Customer Services.

"Our focus on the best tutors, with depth of experience; great content that enhances the learning experience; an environment that helps individuals learn, and a qualification outcome that will have significant value in the UAE or internationally are all components that we believe will help us stand out," he explained.

Firth said because training and development is always seen as an after-thought for companies, Pearson in Practice is aiming  to prove to employers especially in the IT sector that quality programmes can deliver business benefits to both the individual and to the organisation.

"Training is not given due attention in many organisations not just in IT due to its reputation of not providing a good ROI. Training that doesn't have a measurable outcome is a waste of money," he said.

Firth said training must be needs driven and be able to demonstrate that learning has taken place for the benefit of the individual and the organisation. "Our emphasis on programmes that are benchmarked against international best practice certification standards are one of the ways in which Pearson can demonstrate ROI.

He pointed out that through its existing UK-based business Pearson in Practice has built a solid network of partnerships with many key stakeholders. "Globally we have established alliances with 1800 employers, 350 universities, and important certification associations. We are a Platinum Partner with CompTIA, Silver Learning Partner with Microsoft, and an accredited centre for Edexcel and LCCI," he said.
