Qtel is set to acquire all of the communications infrastructure at the The Pearl Qatar development.

The Qatari telco will own and operate the network at the residential and commercial project, to provide voice, data and TV services to residents and businesses. The network was previously wholly-owned by the master developer of the island project, United Development Company (UDC).

Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, CEO of Qtel Qatar, said: "Today's agreement marks another important step forward for Qtel and for residents across Qatar, as we strive to offer the highest level of service, and most advanced technology. Our ambition is to work to make Qatar one of the best-connected countries in the world, and infrastructure acquisition agreements with pioneering developers like UDC are a key part of that process.

"Residents of The Pearl-Qatar can be assured that Qtel will provide them with the highest standards of service, and widest range of choices, so that they enjoy communication to a world-class standard," he added.

Ebrahim Mubarak Al-Sulaiti, CEO, UDC, said: "A great deal of time and careful planning supports this new agreement, which will provide important added-value for our residents and visitors. We are pleased to conclude this agreement, and believe that Qtel will deliver the highest quality of services to residents at The Pearl-Qatar."
