Samsung sells five million Galaxy Note phones The Galaxy Note features a 5.3 inch screen and stylus.

Samsung has announced that it has shipped five million of its Galaxy Note smartphones.

The Korean CE giant said that the phone has proven to be very popular in its home market, driving Samsung's share of the domestic mobile phone market up to 67%, and has also sold well in China, France and Spain.

The Galaxy Note, which was released in October, features a large 5.3 inch AMOLED screen, with stylus input and applications optimised for pen input.

Initial response from some media and analysts was that the large screen made the device too bulky for phone use, but Samsung says that the hybrid approach, which gives tablet capabilities in a phone-sized device, had hit the right note with consumers.
