Etisalat brings 3G services to Afghanistan Etisalat will become the first 3G operator in Afghanistan.

Etisalat Afghanistan has announced that it has launched 3G services in the country.

Abdul Wakil Shergul, chairman, Afghanistan Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ATRA), signed the agreement with Ahmed Alhosani, CEO Etisalat Afghanistan during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology office in Kabul.

Alhosani said at the launch: "Today is an auspicious moment in the history of telecommunications in Afghanistan - one that calls for a celebration of a public-private partnership for connecting people and improving lives. We are proud to launch 3G services in Afghanistan as this shall certainly spur a new era of advanced development in Afghanistan while positively impacting every aspect of people's lives."

Alhosani further stated: "Etisalat Afghanistan and rest of the Etisalat family are committed to Afghanistan and its people. Etisalat's progress here is a part of United Arab Emirates promise of long term partnership to work together with Afghans for transformation of the society into a modern and peaceful country. This is our credo and we strongly adhere to it through practice and contributions in human capital development, sports, education as well as providing a wide range of top of the line telecom services and technologies.

Today's 3G launch by Etisalat marks an evolution in mobile communications and significant progress only made possible through a strong public-private partnership. We would like to congratulate HE, chairman of ATRA Abdul Wakil Shergul and HE Amir Zai Sangin, Minister of Communications & IT, Government of Afghanistan for their vision which has led to achieving this important milestone as well for their continuous support provided to Etisalat to partner in the development of Afghanistan."
