du, in partnership with Dubai One and Sony Entertainment is launching a new reality TV series called The Entrepreneur, designed to foster talent and bring attention to entrepreneurs in the UAE. The programme will come in eight episodes and will be aired on Dubai One in Q3 2012.

The show is open to anyone who is over 18 years old, is a resident in the UAE and already has a business license, and will see contestants compete against each other in The Apprentice style challenges and competitions.

Nisreen Shocair, president of Virgin Middle East and one of the four judges on The Entrepreneur said that the show is looking to attract entrepreneurs that are serious about business and have already taken steps to set up their idea or are already in business.

"The idea behind choosing people who have more capital is to fine tune the selection process. You are getting people that are a little bit more serious beyond ‘Oh I hang out with my friends and I came up with this idea of selling shoes online', not that that is a bad business! We need an idea that is a little bit more developed, people who have actually taken initiative," Shocair told ITP.net.

The other three judges are Abdul Baset Al Janahi CEO MBRE, Yoghesh Mehta, founder and managing director Petrochem, and Muna Al Gurg, director of retail, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group.

The winner of the show will receive AED1 million in funding and services such as office space, mentoring and PR for a period of 12 months.

"We are convinced that there are many good ideas out there which need to be heard and which need to be promoted. The UAE is brimming with fantastic entrepreneurial talent which just needs a platform to take it to the next level. The Entrepreneur aims to empower and support the new breed of UAE entrepreneurs that build new enterprises which are innovative, sustainable and, most importantly contribute meaningfully towards the social development of communities," said Hala Badri, executive vice president Brand and Commuications, du.

To enter entrepreneurs must go to www.theentrepreneur.ae and register by 31st March.
