Microsoft and EMC have been named as amongst the top places to work in the United Arab Emirates in a study released today.

Global logistics provider FedEx top the list of best places to work in the United Arab Emirates. Microsoft, who was named as the  best place to work in 2011 came second, while EMC was listed as the tenth best place to work in the Gulf state.

Other companies named included Mariott Hotels, Pepsi Cola MEA, hospitality company THE One, media giant Omnicom Media Group, Merck UAE, Bayt.com, and Dulsco.

The result will be a blow to Microsoft. In 2011, it was named as the country's best place to work.

The survey also ranked General Electric and PepsiCo as the two best companies for Emiratis to work in, while General Electric, THE One and Omnicom Media Group were ranked the three best companies for women to work in.

The annual survey by the Great Place to Work Institute's USE branc assesses the credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie within organisations. Most of a company's score is based upon confidential feedback from their staff, with an audit of management, and human resource practices making up the rest of the score.
