Saudi Arabia's Al Rajhi Bank has announced that it has been able to issue half a million Europay Mastercard and Visa (EMV) payment cards on the spot to customers visiting its branches in the past six months.

The bank has completed the main roll out of Gemalto's Dexxis Instant Issuance system, which allows it to issue the cards at any of its 500 branches, with just a single click and no waiting time for the customer.

The bank is now issuing 15,000 cards per day using the system, which uses highly secure EMV Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA), which helps to reduce fraud by detecting counterfeit and duplicate cards.

The system uses a one click Arabic-customized interface, and requests for cards can easily be redirected from one bank branch to another.

The project also includes a full set of services: training, end-to-end project management, maintenance and support. 

"Gemalto was able to meet our needs for both the more sophisticated cards and the complete issuance services," said Dr Abdullah Al-Namlah, retail general manager, Al Rajhi Bank. "Al Rajhi has been delivering payment cards at the branch for years so when we determined to switch to EMV, we naturally selected the partner with the broadest experience in EMV instant issuance solutions globally."
