Western Digital has launched a new range of network storage solutions for the SMB sector.

The WD Sentinel DX4000 has been configured to provide shared storage and backup for SMBs, with a high level of data protection.

The storage unit is available in 4TB and 8TB versions, and includes Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials operating system software running on an Intel D525 Dual Core Atom CPU. The Sentinel DX4000 can support up to 25 network attached PC or Mac devices, with centralised shared storage and automated server-based back up.

WD says the Sentinel offers five levels of data protection, through pre-configured enterprise class drives; RAID levels 1 and 5; daily automated backup; Dual Gigabit Ethernet configured in Adaptive Fault Tolerance (AFT) that automatically switches to second network port in the event of a network failure; and optional disaster recovery protection through the small business cloud.

The WD Sentinel also comes with three optional service plans under the WD Guardian program, Guardian Express for next day parts replacement service; Guardian Pro for parts plus a one-year support agreement or Guardian Extended to extend product warranty to five years.

"The WD Sentinel small office storage server is the ideal storage, backup, and secure remote access solution for any SMB," said Khwaja Saifuddin Ahmad, senior director sales Middle East, Africa & South Asia.

"The ability to have centralized storage that is both on-premise and offers secure remote access provides a small business owner and employees the flexibility needed for today's mobile lifestyle. WD is providing small business owners with a hands-free solution that offers complete data protection and unparalleled peace-of-mind," he added.

WD has also introduced a new channel programme to support the SMB sector, the SelectWD SMB Partner Program, which will help resellers to market, sell and support the WD Sentinel DX4000 and Guardian service plans.

The WD Sentinel DX4000 small office storage server has an MSRP of 4,399 AED ($1,198) for 4TB and 6,399 AED ($1,743)for the 8TB.
