Two of du's submarine cables have been cut and the company has warned that this may affect internet speeds in the region.

"We are issuing this statement in order to alert our customers to a possible degradation of internet services as a result of two international submarine cable cuts that took place yesterday: the first is located in Suez (Egypt), on SMW3 cable and the second is located between Chennai and Singapore on i2i cable.  The cable cut may affect some internet users who may witness degradation in internet speed as we expect some slowness especially in peak times," read the statement.

Since the cuts were discovered, du has rerouted much of its traffic over multiple alternative cable systems to reduce the impact of the cable cuts. The company said that it is working with the parties involved to work towards a quick resolution to the problem.

According to du, repair processes have already started and performance is expected to go back to normal levels within the coming few days.

Well put, Leo50, good note. Let's say, at least this time we are told, alerted, not denied that there is fault. Don't see apologies either...oh, yes, and the discount...missing in action, despite the fact that we are still paying dearly for internet in UAE. Did anyone wonder why? as we see profits of both Etisalat and Du soaring?

amazing with all the thousands of miles of oceans around the world, how often UAE internet cables are hit by submarines. Almost as amazing as the number of times that we subscruibers are offered a reduction in rates for downtime experienced....
