Internet giant Google has revealed the winner of its ‘Doodle 4 Google' competition to mark the UAE's 40 National Day.

Andrew Osama Fathy, a pupil at Abdel Jaleel Al Fahim School, beat 14 finalists to have his sketch decorate the Google homepage on 2nd December to celebrate the founding of the UAE.

More than 20,000 students in the Gulf state submitted their designs, the company told Arabian Business.

"It's been quite challenging to decide on the finalists from so many creative doodles, as there are so many talented students providing great insight into what the UAE means to them," said Najeeb Jarrar, product marketing manager for the company.

The search engine has celebrated a slew of great and good names by depicting pictures or scenes from their lives. Other subjects who have received the Google doodle treatment include literary great Mark Twain, Nobel prize-winning scientist Marie Curie, HG Wells and Agatha Christie.
