AEC gives GITEX the thumbs up
Saudi-based diversified electronics company has been able to develop new partnerships, customers during GITEX 2011
Saudi Arabia-based Advanced Electronics Company (AEC), which deals in the manufacture and maintenance of appliances in the military, telecoms and industrial sectors, is reporting that GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK has been a success in terms of meeting new clients and developing new business partnerships with both Middle Eastern and global clients.
"Gitex has been good for us in the past and continues to be this year, there are three major elements that basically we always focus on. First of all, getting new customers and GITEX is one of the best places where you really expose your capabilities and products to new customers, second, it is a chance for us to meet most of our customers, especially in the IT and ICT arena. Third it is a good place to network with our current partners and potential new partners. Once you become a solution provider then partnerships become a very important element of the business process and GITEX has always been excellent," said Dr Khaled H Biyari, senior vice president and general manager of AEC.
During GITEX 2011, AEC said it was able to interact with a large number of potential partners who are interested in either adding value to its current offerings, or looking to integrate AEC products into their own offerings.
Dr Biyari said that approximately 90% of customers that it has seen at GITEX are from the Middle East region, but partnerships AEC has been able to work at building at GITEX are more global.
"GITEX is really becoming a global event in the ICT industry so you meet people from the Far East to the US to Europe to South Africa to Australia, it has been very good in this aspect," said Dr Biyari.
AEC has recently changed the primary focus of its business from manufacturing to providing complete end-to-end solutions in the military, telecoms and industrial sector, so previously focused on Saudi Arabia as it was controlled by the OEM construction zone geography but is now looking at regional expansion.
"Currently because we have our own solutions, especially as it relates to the smart metering solutions, we are now in a position to offer our technology, especially now that it is proven, to customers outside of Saudi Arabia and there are discussions not only in the GCC, but around the Middle East and beyond. We are definitely going to expand regionally," said Dr Biyari.
AEC is a diversified organisation, which approaches the market through three business units focusing on three different market segments. The first segment is electronics systems for the military, such as avionics and tactical systems; the second segment is industrial business systems unit which focuses on the utility business, particularly smart metering systems.
"We have our own smart metering solutions that were developed at AEC and are currently serving the utility business primarily in Saudi Arabia and now we are expanding into the region," said Dr Biyari.
The third business unit is the ICT unit, which provides services to two distinct markets; one is the service providers market, where AEC serves the service providers primarily through providing them with data networking solutions such as MPLS core business, access solutions and different telecom products such as value added services and the second is focused on the public sector provides a range of ICT services on the network connectivity side and the applications side.
"We cover the value chain from design and development, where we have in-house capabilities to design both hardware and software solutions and then we have manufacturing services, where we state of the art factories that provide services to global companies, which would include the who's who of the military industry such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin and all the big names and traditionally we used to do manufacture for telecoms, but that is more going into the services side," said Dr Biyari.
All of the manufacturing, repair and design of AEC's systems are done at its headquarters in Riyadh and the company is able to provide and manage complete systems solutions. According to Dr Biyari, AEC prides itself on its project management service, from reading the requirements of customers, through the project lifecycle.
