Us networking specialist Netgear is promoting a range of solutions based around the idea of “smart IT” at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK.

Richard Jonker, Managing Director, Emerging Markets, Netgear, says that the company is mainly focusing on products that cater to the key trends that are happening in IT.

“What we preach is that as the economy is changing, IT is changing. There are a couple of trends that we are capitalising on here. The first thing is that people don’t want to buy big IT any more. They want to buy smart IT,” he says. “That is why you see some of the big vendors shrinking and going to vendors like us that deliver smart IT. Our goal is to deliver smart IT solutions without the cost and complexity of the big IT vendors.”

Netgear targets any organisation that has between 10 and 1000 users, although its main focus is organisations with between 20 and 250 users.

Jonker points to a number of key trends in the Middle East IT sector, including virtualisation and cloud computing.

“You don’t run businesses any more on a physical server – it is changing into virtual processes. The Middle East is really interesting now. It got delayed a bit due to the economic slowdown, but now you can see virtualisation saves cost,” he says.

In terms of cloud computing, Jonker says that companies in the Middle East have “a bit hesitant” about cloud computing.

“This stems from fears about storing data on another continent and possible legal complications,” Jonker adds.
