Huawei is promoting its new cloud computing solutions for the telecoms and enterprise market at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK.

The company’s cloud solution, which launched around a year ago, originally targeted telecom operators, initially in China, but with the oversea expansion, and the growth of Huawei’s enterprise business, Huawei has now developed the solution for a wide range of customers.

The solution has been designed for maximum flexibility, says Ron Raffensperger, Director, Cloud Computing Marketing, Huawei, and plays on Huawei’s diverse product range, to meet the varied demands of operators and enterprises. “Different operators have different kinds of focus, some want to focus around large enterprises, some around consumers, some around small businesses, and in order to meet that we have created a very flexible product, and then we have an ecosystem of partners to be able to meet the unique requirements. We are taking a similar approach in the enterprise space, because they also have different needs.”

In the Middle East, Huawei is already in talks with a number of telecoms operators around cloud deployment and different business models, with a similarly varied focus, and is discussing possible projects as diverse as SMB enablement, providing computing services to small businesses to improve their competitiveness; to delivering large scale computing power and storage to the broadcast and animation industry for render farms.

In the enterprise space, Huawei, sees a very broad range of possible models, especially with government agencies, which are looking at e-government, e-education and healthcare, in particular mobile healthcare.

Raffensperger says the original telecom focus of Huawei gives it advantages. “If you look at the architecture of our solution, you will see some things that are different. One is that because we are conscious of the needs of operators, they have been designed to be bigger than most enterprise clouds, and to be geographically distributed, so we can have up to 1,000 different locations that are part of one cloud,” he says. “We also have built in the capabilities that a telecom operator would want related to reliance and reliability and the focus on the customer.”
