Intel's 510 Series consists of just two drives, 120GB and 250GB on test here.

Like its counterpart the 250GB drive offers decent overall performance, though given that Intel claims higher maximum read and write speeds of 500MB/sec and 315MB/sec on this 250GB drive to the 120GB drive's figures of 450MB/sec and 210MB/sec, we were ever so slightly disappointed with the former's performance.

It managed AS SSD sequential read and write figures of 219.04MB/sec and 198.98MB/sec, which made it a little slower than its 120GB counterpart. When it came to the more intensive random 4K and 64K read and write tests the drive was, again, a little slower than the 120GB drive, managing read and write figures of 17.39MB/sec, 35.29MB/sec, 19.06MB/sec and 43.32MB/sec respectively.

With a retail price of US $584 the 250GB Intel 510 Series drive is the second most expensive offering in this test. However, when you look at its cost per gigabyte, the 510 Series is actually a steal asking for a mere $2.34 per gigabyte - the lowest figure in this round-up. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck this is the SSD option for you.

Like its smaller, less expensive sibling this drive is also covered by a three-year warranty, though it too has a lower than average (in this test) MTBF of 1,200,000 hours.

Verdict: Packing decent performance and a killer cost per gigabyte of just $2.34, the 250GB 510 Series drive is definitely worth considering.
