Website Techland Time reports that, cumulatively, Americans spend more time on Facebook than on any other website on the Internet. How much time exactly? Nielsen estimates that the American population spent a total of 53.5 billion minutes on the social networking site.

The figure is based on the activity of 150 million Facebook users, which means that each user spends about 350 minutes a month on the website or about 10 minutes per day.

Techland also reports that the second most popular website after Facebook was Yahoo. Nielsen estimates that Yahoo users spend about 17.2 billion minutes on the site each month. Coming in at third place was yet another search giant; Google with 12.5 billion minutes of usage per month.

Despite Facebook's obvious popularity, some sites have pointed out that the social networking site has lost some of its steam in certain markets. The website is said to have lost seven million active users in the United States and Canada alone in May of this year.
