LG Electronics has launched its Optimus 3D smartphone in the UAE in partnership with Sharaf DG.

"3D Technology has grown beyond being a buzzword. Today 3D technology has become the main stream of people's life style. LG's Optimus 3D Smartphone brings advanced 3D technology to the palm of your hands", said H S Paik, president of LG Electronics Gulf. "LG's Optimus 3D is an addition to LG's growing 3D Family of products aimed at the day to day requirements of our consumers. The Optimus 3D takes the Smartphone experience into new territory with its Tri-Dual configuration - dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory - which allows improved performance when multi-tasking, enjoying a movie or playing graphics intensive games."

The smartphone is designed to allow users to record and view content in 3D without the need for 3D glasses; it is also able to convert 2D content to 3D content through its in-built conversion system.

Software for converting 2D games into 3D will be available in Q3 2011, according to LG.

The phone features a dual-channel configuration, designed to optimise performance

According to LG, dual-channel configuration means that data transfers take place simultaneously between the dual-core and dual memory, resulting in faster performance. As a result, the LG Optimus 3D maximises run-time efficiency.

The Optimus 3D is designed to allow users to capture high quality 3D content with 3D video stabilisation technology and a real-time misalignment correction algorithm which corrects for shake during recording.

The phone has a 4.3-inch WVGA display for flicker-free images in HD, up to 1080p in 2D and up to 720p in 3D.

The phone features a HDMI 1.4 connection so users can view content on 3D TVs and the Optimus is also designed to be able to send content to any DLNA Certified device. Users can also upload and stream 3D content on YouTube's dedicated 3D channel

The phone comes with three pre-installed 3D games; Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, Let's Golf and N.O.V.A, produced in collaboration with Gameloft.

LG has also announced an Optimus 3D gaming competition, which will take place every Thursday and Friday for the next four weeks at all Sharaf DG outlets in the UAE.

Each day will see one winner and post elimination rounds and four finalists will compete in the Grand Finals to be held on 6th October 2011 at the Sharaf DG in Times Square.

"At Sharaf DG we're committed to providing our customers the best of the products in the market and LG's Optimus 3D Smartphone is the perfect premium product. The Optimus 3D is user friendly, loaded with applications, has a comfortable interface and has brought 3D Technology onto the screen of your phone. To let consumers understand the true benefits of LG Optimus 3D, we will be holding a game competition for five weeks in six Sharaf DG stores," said Yasser Sharaf, MD of Sharaf DG.
