Retailers get revved up for GITEX Shopper

Organisers expect 25,000 different gadgets and technologies to be on show from 8th to 15th October

Retailers get revved up for GITEX Shopper Organisers of GITEX Shopper 2011 are expecting 25,000 gadgets to be on show this year. (ITP Images)

Technology retailers and brands are looking to tap into the UAE's billion-dollar consumer electronics market at GITEX Shopper, the largest consumer IT and electronics show in the Middle East, which is taking place from 8th to 15th October 2011 at Airport Expo Dubai.

Analysts have estimated that the UAE's consumer electronics market is worth approximately $3.4 billion.

Visitors to GITEX shopper, organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), can expect show offers, bundled deals, competitions and launches of the latest technology products, according to the DWTC. 

Organisers expect to see over 25,000 cutting-edge products and gadgets at the show.

Connecting consumers with the world-class consumer IT and electronics brands for an eight day retail extravaganza, GITEX Shopper is the perfect one-stop shop destination to discover the latest products to improve your leisure time, home, workplace or school," said Trixee Loh, senior vice president, DWTC. 

Ninety percent of the floorspace at GITEX Shopper is already booked and some of the world's top electronics brands have confirmed their presence, including Canon, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, HTC, Intel, JVC, Lenovo, Nakamichi, Panasonic, RIM-Blackberry, Samsung, SanDisk and Western Digital.   

Virgin Megastore and Bose will also by participating at GITEX Shopper for the first time.

 "Virgin Megastore celebrates its 10th anniversary in the UAE this October, and part of the celebration will be our first stand-alone participation at GITEX Shopper. There is no doubt that this show offers the perfect platform for us to showcase the fast growing consumer electronics segment of our business, and enables us to celebrate our landmark anniversary with tens of thousands of our loyal customers in the region. Visitors to this year's Virgin Megastore GITEX Shopper stand will not be disappointed," said Tarek Moussawer, regional marketing manager, Virgin Megastore Middle East. 

Regional distributors and retailers, including CompuME, Du, E4U, E-City, EMAX, Etisalat, Geekay Games, iSTYLE, Jacky's Electronics, Jumbo Electronics, Plug-Ins, Sharaf DG, Touchmate and VV & Sons will also be present.

GITEX Shopper is open from 11am to 10pm from Saturday 8th to Wednesday 12th October; from 11am to 11pm on Thursday 13th and Saturday 15th October; and from 3pm to 11pm on Friday 14th October. 

Tickets are AED30 per person and are available at the venue and online through Time Out Tickets. Entry is free for children under the age of five.
