Sony's new PlayStation Vita handheld console will not be launched in the US or Europe this year.

The company has announced that it will release the handheld in Japan before the end of the year, but it will miss Christmas sales in two key markets that made up 40% of its revenue in the last fiscal year, according to Bloomberg.

Sony has also said it will not the price of the Vita, which has previously been given as $250 for the Wi-Fi version and $300 for the 3G version, despite rival Nintendo cutting the price of its 3DS handheld console.

Sony is increasingly reliant on its games business, as its TV business has made a loss for the past eight years.
