Research In Motion releases PlayBook update
Update features improvements to BlackBerry Bridge, multimedia support and language support
Research In Motion has released an update for the BlackBerry Tablet OS, the update features improvements to BlackBerry Bridge, multimedia and language functionalities.
The BlackBerry Bridge update is designed to have improved connectivity and productivity, enhanced support for saving attachments for viewing and editing. Users can now save an attachment to a removable SD card, or to their BlackBerry smartphone's internal flash memory.
The BlackBerry Bridge app also now gives access to ZIP files received as an email attachment. While bridged, users can now download a zip file from an email to the smartphone SD card and extract compressed contents for viewing or editing on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Updates multi-media features include portrait or landscape viewing support in the pictures app, allowing users to change the aspect of their pictures. The video app now also features pinch to zoom during video playback.
Research In Motion has added support for the following 15 languages: Basque, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Galician, Hungarian, Bahasa Indonesia, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese Brazilian, Portuguese European, Swedish, Turkish, Romanian and Russian.
The update is free and can be downloaded directly from the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. Users who purchase and activate a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on or after Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 will be automatically updated to v1.0.7 as part of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet setup process. Existing BlackBerry PlayBook tablet users will get a software update notification on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet status ribbon, or can check for the software updates in the Settings Menu under Software Updates.
