BlackBerry’s growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reflects RIM's commitment to serving the retail channel

RIM, the manufacture of BlackBerry phones has continued to witness year-on-year growth of its smartphones in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to recent point-of-sale data by market research agency GfK Retail and Technology.

Over the past year from May 2010 to May 2011, more BlackBerryCurve 8520 smartphones have been sold in the KSA than any other smartphone. The data shows a year-on-year sales growth of 112%.

GfK also reported that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 was ranked KSA's number one selling smartphone from July 2010 until May 2011, or 11 consecutive months.

Sandeep Saihgal, managing director for RIM Middle East, remarks that: "The GfK results reflect our ongoing commitment to the KSA market. We are heavily focused on providing innovative smartphone technology to our BlackBerry users, but also to developing strong relationships with local distributors, carriers and retailers in this market."
