Abdul Malek Al Jaber is to resign from his COO role of Kuwait's Zain at the end of this June, according to a company statement as reported by Reuters. This comes in less than three months of Al Jaber taking up the dual roles of being the chief executive of Jordan as well as being appointed as COO of the parent company in March.
Al Jaber joined Zain Jordan as chief executive in July 2009.
Al Jaber said that he will now spend more time with his family and focus on personal business interests.
Zain has nominated Ahmad Al Hanandeh to become the chief executive of Zain Jordan from July 1, while Zain group chief executive, Nabil bin Salama, is to take up the role of COO until further notice, said a Zain spokesperson.
In March, UAE's Etisalat withdrew a $12 billion takeover offer for Zain.
Zain has provisionally agreed to sell its quarter-stake in affiliate Zain Saudi to joint bidders Kingdom Holding and Bahraini operator Batelco.
