Do you think distribution has recovered from recent economic upheaval?
The distribution business has still not recovered yet, especially as a lot of our markets have political problems, and it is really affecting the outlook. On the other hand, markets like Saudi and Abu Dhabi are still growing.
What were the company’s main milestones in 2010?
We introduced our own brands Canyon and Prestigio to the market, we opened relationships with a lot of key retailers and hyper-markets, which gives us room to grow. We grew Lenovo in Saudi. We were also awarded Middle East Component Distributor of the Year at Distree Monte Carlo.
What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2011?
We are still focused on components, we are focused more because of the consolidation that is happening in this area, and we also see the multi-pad/tablet market growing well into 2012.
Asbis continues to diversify from pure components distribution into the retail sector, and to build its business in markets like Saudi. As a distie for both Intel and AMD, Asbis can lay claim to being one of the biggest CPU suppliers in the region, but with additions like Prestigio tablets, the company is not sitting still.
