Sony Ericsson has introduced Facebook inside Xperia, which is available on the latest Xperia mini and minipro series to specifically target social media fans.

The application is designed to allow users to instantly communicate on social networking sites and provide an advanced social media experience.

Facebook has become an integral part of modern communication, with approximately a billion minutes spent on the site to share over 30 billion pieces of content each month, according to Sony.

"People are becoming increasingly reliant on their smartphones for instant communication. Sony Ericsson has enhanced the integration of Facebook in the Xperia portfolio to give consumers a rich social media experience while they are on the go," said Stephan Croix, head of Marketing Partnerships, Sony Ericsson. "Sony Ericsson is working closely with Facebook to ensure that the integration continually evolves to ensure users have the ability to interact between their preferred social media channels and their smartphones."

The Facebook application is an exclusive feature to the Xperia series of phones and provides integration with the social networking site throughout the phone's functions.

Facebook is immediately from the picture gallery, music player, phonebook and calendar.

"We think that mobile devices are the ideal environment for a rich social experience.  Sony Ericsson has created a deeply immersive Facebook experience inside Xperia smartphones and we believe that people will love this new, intuitive experience," said Henri Moissinac, head of Mobile Business, Facebook.

Xperia users can track, manage, store or buy downloads and can ‘like' music files directly from the integrated media player. These ‘likes' then get automatically posted on Facebook. Users can also track what music and videos their friends have liked, recommended or commented on, even on YouTube.

Users can also ‘like' and comment on photos and albums and the phone's calendar is synchronized with friends' birthdays or events that are on Facebook.

In addition, Facebook notification alerts are featured in the lockscreen, designed to keep users connected even when not using the phone.

The new Facebook feature is available to existing Xperia mini pro and Xperia mini phones when users update the phone software.

Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro and Xperia mini will be available across all leading stores in the Middle East from the third quarter of 2011.
