Collaboration solutions provider, SMART Technologies, has announced that the Universal American School (UAS) in Dubai will be the first SMART Showcase School in the United Arab Emirates.

The school was chosen because of its use of SMART products in 90% of classrooms, including the SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Notebook collaborative learning software, which is installed on over 200 computers used by teachers and pupils.

"The SMART Showcase School programme is a unique way to appreciate the efforts of educational institutions that are committed to integrating technology and interactive learning opportunities into their classrooms through the strong use of SMART products," says Aaron Fright, SMART's area manager, Middle East. "The Universal American School is at the forefront of introducing ICT and collaborative learning techniques into the school's curriculum and we are pleased to welcome them as our first SMART Showcase School in the UAE."

The K-12 school is using the products to enhance the learning experience for children, according to SMART, delivering interactive lessons across all grades and a wide range of subject areas.

SMART products were first introduced into classrooms in 2008 as part of the schools mission to improve the integration of ICT into classrooms and learning. Several of the UAS teachers have advanced-level SMART Board interactive whiteboard training and the school has created formal positions for educational ICT coordinators, responsible for further ICT integrations and professional development for teachers.

"As one of the leading educational institutions in the UAE, we are committed to providing our students with a progressive outlook and the necessary tools to help them excel through technology-enabled learning," said Dr Gunther Brandt, director of the Universal American School. "We are proud to have been chosen as the first SMART Showcase School in the UAE; incorporating SMART products into our curriculum has helped create an engaging and interactive learning environment that has measurably contributed to improving teaching and learning throughout our entire school."
