In Canon's Pixma lineup the Pixma MG6140 currently stands second to only the MG8140.

Like the much more expensive HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus all-in-one, the Pixma sports an all black exterior. There's much more to the Pixma's exterior than meets the eye however; when you power up the MFD parts of the black surface reveal themselves to be touch-sensitive buttons - very cool.

The Canon sports a colour LCD screen too and using the touch-sensitive interface you can accomplish everything from PC-free photo printing to copying. The menu system is logically setup and natural to use so getting the Pixma to get busy is simple.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for the Canon's initial setup. When we plugged in the MFD for the first time the Pixma announced that it would take five minutes for its setup process. However, by the time the inkjet finished its cleaning cycle and alignment tests we clocked nearly 10 minutes on our stopwatch.

Beyond this initial setup the MG6140 proved a fast worker. It completed our 20-page print test in monochrome and colour managing print speeds of 9.3ppm and 6.5ppm. These figures were the second highest among the inkjet MFDs in this grouptest. Tackling our more intensive six-page text and graphics PDF test the printer managed a speed of 3.5ppm. Brilliant!

Verdict: With six ink tanks, a slick user interface and superb overall print quality, the Pixma MG6140 is a brilliant buy that won’t hurt your bank balance.

Pros: i can't even say if i like or dislike the product because i am having problems with getting it to work on my macbook pro

Cons: IT DOESN'T EVEN INSTALL PROPERLY when installing and following the step by step instructions it doesn't show half the way through because it cuts out to the end of the instalation i can't even try using it except if i copy stuff and print in straight from the printer to paper
