Display complete specs ›Brother says its MFC-J615W compact inkjet all-in-one is designed for homes and small offices and after spending some time with it, we agree fully with Brother's assessment.
Priced at US $163 the Brother sports both consumer- and office-related features. For consumers it offers a colour inkjet print engine that uses four cartridges for better colour accuracy. You also get PictBridge support and a built-in memory card reader so you can print photos without ever needing to boot your computer.
On the office side the MFC-J615W won't leave you wanting for much; it packs an automatic duplexer (enabling automatic double-sided printing), it features an automatic document feeder (ADF) for scan jobs up to 15-pages and there's a built-in fax too.
The Brother also sports the most compact dimensions in this round-up so you won't have to worry about where to put it, if you're working in a cramped small office or a room in your home.
Running our print tests on the MFC-J615W exposed chinks in its armour however. The MFD managed to complete our 20-page monochrome and colour document print tests with speeds of just 3ppm and 2.9ppm. Feeding the device our more intensive six page text and graphics PDF document it could only muster a speed of 2.5ppm, with the first page arriving after 32 seconds.
Verdict: If speed isn’t a major concern the MFC-J615W is an inexpensive yet fully-featured all-in-one that will serve you well.
