Palestinian telecom operator, Paltel, has signed an MPLS inter-carrier interconnection (ICI) agreement with Hong Kong-based telecom operator PCCW Global Ltd.

The deal will allow Paltel to offer its enterprise customers MPLS services via PCCW Global's infrastructure, which covers 1,500 cities in 110 countries around the world.

Abdul Majeed Melhem, general manager, Paltel described the deal as an "important milestone" in the company's road map for 2011.

"Paltel is now able to provide world-class international connectivity service for its customers, enabling them to securely and effectively connect their business offices across the world," he said.

Frederick Chui, senior vice president of global marketing and sales, PCCW Global, added that the deal would also give his company a foothold in the Palestinian market: "Palestine's telecom market has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years. Our cooperation with PALTEL will enable us to get a foothold in this market and extend our coverage in the Middle East," he said.

Paltel, Palestine's incumbent operator, offers fixed-line and mobile services, and competes with Wataniya in the mobile sector.
