Supermarket chain plans rapid expansion across UAE for 2011

Zawya implements Oracle solutions Dubai supermarket and convenience store chain, Zawya, has implemented Oracle solutions across its three existing shops within a period of four months.

Dubai supermarket and convenience store chain, Zawya, has, within the space of four months, implemented Oracle Applications to support its business in the United Arab Emirates.

"Our target was to develop and launch the Zawya concept within seven months," said Anil Verma, chief executive officer, Zawya. "Investing in Oracle's proven world-class systems; we have not only created a retail platform in this timescale, but have enabled the business to respond quickly to market opportunities and developed a strategic relationship to drive long-term benefits."

Zawya is hoping to design and launch a new shopping format which is based on the popularity of smaller stores, using Oracle's software.

Zawya has so far completed two phases of a three-phase implementation programme and is using Oracle Retail merchandising and stores applications, Oracle E-Business Suite Financials 12.1 and Oracle Database 11g, designed to create an integrated and flexible infrastructure that will allow for business expansion and growth, while keeping costs lower in terms of total ownership.

The final phase of the project is scheduled to deliver Oracle Retail Store Inventory Management, Oracle Retail Warehouse Management System, Oracle Human Resources Management System and Oracle Siebel Loyalty.

Zawya is currently using the Oracle applications to enhance customer service levels, deliver consistent pricing and promotions through both in-store and home delivery sectors and enable shops to order the correct goods based on localised customer demand.

Versant Technologies, a Gold level member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), has supported the implementation.

Zawya opened its first store in Dubai in late 2010, its second store in February, its third store early in April and plans to open 20 more stores across the UAE by the end of 2011.
