Imation's Link Wireless A/V Extender allows you to stream content from your computer to a TV sans wires.
The device can be used with Windows PCs and Macs giving it true universal appeal. Using the Link you can stream Internet videos, images, presentations and video conferences straight to your TV screen. Videos can be displayed via the Link at up to 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) while images can be shown at up to 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels).
The transference relies on a wireless line of sight connection between the supplied USB transmitter and the shark-fin-shaped receiver. The receiver needs to be plugged into a power socket and hooked up via either HDMI or D-Sub cable to your TV or monitor. There is also a separate speaker connection port if your screen lacks a HDMI port.
Setup is quick and painless when using Windows 7 as the drivers were available on the USB transmitter itself. For Mac users separate drivers are included on a CD.
During testing we used the Link to view 720p videos on YouTube, flipped through photographs on Flickr and also played HD video files stored on our laptop's hard drive. There was a constant, stutter- free rendition of content even when we took the laptop 20-feet away from the receiver. The Link claims a range of 30-feet which we had no doubt it could achieve, the only limitation being that the USB transmitter has to be in line of sight with the receiver.
Verdict: A competent device that allows you to broadcast HD content to your TV or monitor without cables.
