D-Link Middle East & Africa is proud to announce that its Boxee Box (DSM 380) and Powerline AV Mini Adapter (DHP 310AV) have been awarded the 2011 red dot product design award.

The red dot design award is the largest and most renowned international accolade for industrial design. Each year, prominent designers and experts from all over the world evaluate products based on criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, and overall quality. Vying for this coveted distinction were 4,433 products submitted by 1,700 contestants from 60 countries.

"It's a great honor to be recognized for our design efforts this year," said Jocelyn Chung, VP of Marketing, D-Link Headquarters. "We develop products with our end-users in mind, so we are thrilled that red dot has affirmed our dedication to innovation and usability. The Boxee Box and Powerline AV Mini Adapter are great examples of D-Link's ability to present fresh solutions to the ever-evolving demands of customers throughout the world."

Since its introduction late last year, the Boxee Box (DSM-380) has garnered considerable attention due to its unconventional appearance and pioneering user interface. Although Internet set-top boxes are nothing new, the Boxee Box is the first among them to make the Internet TV experience fun and painless. Its convenient radio frequency (RF) remote has a full QWERTY keyboard for easy text entry, and requires no line of sight to its base.

With support for high-speed wireless N, optical digital audio and HDMI, the Boxee Box effortlessly integrates with modern AV components. In addition to its inventive hardware design, the Boxee Box is built with Boxee Inc.'s groundbreaking software. Developed especially for HDTV, its attractive graphical interface simplifies the process of browsing Internet multimedia, even when viewed at a considerable distance from the screen.

The HomePlug AV Mini Adapter (DHP-310AV) is a full-featured powerline adapter for connecting computers, HD media players, game consoles, and network attached storage devices to a home network. Unlike early powerline devices which were bulky and often blocked access to adjacent outlets, this mini adapter comes in a much more compact form factor. A secure powerline connection can be set up at the push of a button, extending a network connection throughout the home using existing electrical wiring. Users can enjoy network speeds of up to 200 Mbps, sufficient for bandwidth-hungry applications such as VoIP and streaming multimedia. Additionally, integrated D-Link GreenT features offer power savings and help to protect the environment.

Earlier this year, D-Link was also awarded the 2011 iF Product Design Award for its DAP-1525 access point with SmartBeamT technology and DWA-121 Wireless N adapter.
