The UAE's first satellite, Y1A, has been delivered to the European Spaceport in French Guiana, to be prepared for launch.

The communications satellite, which is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi's Yahsat,  was flown from the EADS Astrium construction facility in France by Antonov cargo plane, to spaceport in Korou. The satellite is due to be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket sometime in the first quarter of this year.

The satellite will provide commercial and government satellite service offerings.

Yahsat is wholly owned by Mubadala Development Company, the Abu Dhabi Government's strategic investment company.
