Trend Micro has announced an application that is designed to secure Android powered mobile devices.

With a growth rate of 850%, Android is currently the number two platform on mobile devices.

Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android is designed to protect these devices from security breaches while surfing the internet or banking online.

The security suite features web-surfing security, parental controls, file download protection and call and text message filtering. Users are able to block unwanted calls and screen incoming calls using custom filtering lists.

Trend Micro says the software can detect online threats and disable them before they attack the user's device.

"Trend Micro has a proven track record of being a long-time leader in the mobile security market, from protecting Windows Mobile 2003 devices to our recent Trend Smart Surfing iPhone application," said Carol Carpenter, general manager of Trend Micro consumer and small business. "With the Android platforms rapid growth, cybercriminals will be rushing to take advantage of these mobile devices any way they can. Trend Micro Mobile Security highlights our continuing goal of protecting our customers anytime, on any device."

Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android is designed to provide real-time, instant browser protection to users and is backed by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network.

According to Trend Micro, it is currently the only company that uses cloud-based security intelligence to protect Android devices.

Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android is available on the Android Market.
