Although the MSI N460GTX HAWK is designed for budget buyers who are keen on playing DirectX 11 titles, MSI has packed it with high-end overclocking features.
The card features a 7+1 phase design and offers what MSI refers to as ‘the world's first Triple Over Voltage'. The latter allows you to increase the PLL, GPU and memory voltage independently using MSI's Afterburner software.
Given that getting careless with these voltage settings can effectively destroy your card (this isn't covered under warranty), we seriously recommend proceeding
To cope with the extra heat generated by overclocking, MSI has equipped the card with a heavy duty cooling system that includes two 80mm fans and an extensive heatsink/heatpipe assembly.
The MSI's nVidia GeForce GTX 460 GPU runs at a core frequency of 780MHz, whereas the 1GB of GDDR5 memory runs at 3600MHz. In our intensive DirectX 11 Heaven v2.0 benchmark the card reported framerates of 59.3fps, 41.9fps and 35.9fps at 1024 x 768, 1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1200 pixels. These are the second fastest scores we've ever seen from a GTX 460 card. Galaxy's GeForce GTX 460 offering was the only faster contender we had on record, it managed figures of 60.8fps, 43.5fps and 37.3fps.
