Netgear to Sell Rebranded Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8800 10 Gigabit Network Modular Switches to SMBs and Eduction clients

Extreme Networks, today jointly announced an OEM relationship allowing Netgear to respond to their chassis-based network requirements within SMBs and education markets. According to the new agreement Netgear will add the Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8800 modular switches to its portfolio of smart networking solutions.

Small and midsized Enterprises looking to benefit from Ethernet connectivity for converged communications and Internet services to accelerate their business performance are the customers that Extreme Networks are targeting with the BlackDiamond 8800 modular switches.

Netgear extends its network portfolio of 10GE Ethernet switches with the BlackDiamond 8800 platform features and price/performance for managed Layer 2/3 Gigabit and 10 GbE networking. Its modular software foundation, ‘ExtremeXOS' is said to be consistent and simple to use.

Extreme Networks will provide certain chassis, management and switching modules with its BlackDiamond 8800 modular switches to complement NETGEAR's suite of end-to-end networking, storage and security solutions that serve the growing needs of enterprises.

The Extreme Networks/Netgear relationship is a multi-year agreement till 2013 and shipments are expected to start early in 2011.
