The next version of the iPad is likely to be thinner, lighter, and include a front-facing camera, according to component manufacturers that are contributing to the new device.

The Reuters news agency quoted a number of unnamed industry sources on the new specifications, as manufacturers ramp up production of components for Apple's new tablet.

The second version of the tablet device is also likely to have a higher resolution screen, and is expected to be available sometime in early 2011, most likely by April.

A number of manufacturers are involved in production of components for the iPad, Reuters said, including touchscreen chip designer Wintek Corp , battery maker Simplo Technology and cover manufacturer AVY Precision. Genius Electronic Optical Co Ltd and Largan Precision Co Ltd are believed to have new supply deals with Apple for the cameras in the iPad.
