Flip Video creator inspires Dubai Women’s College
Kaplan discusses entrepreneurship and the development of the use of personal video
Jonathan Kaplan, Flip Video camera developer and senior vice president and general manager of Cisco Consumer Products, treated Dubai Women's College students and faculty to a master class on entrepreneurship.
"I am delighted to be able to share my experiences with the next generation of UAE entrepreneurs," said Kaplan. "The students' enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit is impressive and a testament to the great potential that exists in this market."
Kaplan spoke about his entrepreneurial journey and the acquisition of his Flip camera manufacturing company, Pure Digital Technologies by Cisco in 2009. He also spoke about the development of the capture and sharing of personal video.
"Flip Video has changed the way people capture and share video because it makes it simple, accessible and fun for everyone. This is truly an exciting time in the personal video market. Without question, personal video is taking off in a big way, and I expect this trend to continue," he said.
After his speech, the audience was able to ask Kaplan questions about the challenges and rewards of starting a business.
"Today's Q&A session is another example of how Dubai Women's College prepares students for life after academia and our ongoing efforts to ensure that they have access to leaders in the business community. As our industry partner, Cisco has provided DWC with considerable expertise and time and today's visit by Jonathan Kaplan is the highlight of this valued relationship," said Dr Behjat Al Yusuf, associate director of Dubai Women's College.
Ten Dubai Women's college students were given a Flip Video recorder following the session.
