Sony Gulf has announced the release of the Handycam NEX-VG10 in the Middle East. This camera is the company's first foray into consumer HD camcorders with interchangeable lenses.

The unit features a 14.2-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and provides the option of using a variety of lenses for various artistic results. The lens options include fish-eye, wide-angle and telephoto configurations.

The camera is compatible with G lenses as well as Carl Zeiss lenses, via an additional lens adaptor.

The Handycam comes with an E-mount 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS zoom lens, with an 11x optical zoom as well as an optical image stabilisation tool to correct camera shake.

The 18-200mm lens also features silent auto-focus and iris control for different lighting effects. The camera allows manual control of various settings for the more advanced user, including aperture settings and shutter speeds.

The NEX-VG10 is designed to produce high quality sound using Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone, which uses processing algorithms to combine signals from four separate omni-directional microphone capsules. There is an optional jack for adding an extra microphone and a headphone jack for checking the audio.

The 3-inch swivel Xtra Fine LCD screen featuring TruBlack technology and a pivoting EVF allows users to frame subjects in the desired manner.

The Handycam records in AVCHD format allowing for high quality Full HD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at the maximum bitrate of 24Mbps.

The NEX-VG10 also comes with an NP-FV70 battery that records approximately 155 minutes continuously. For users with higher battery capacity needs, there is an optional NP-FV100 battery, which can record approximately five hours of continuous video. There are two options of memory that can be used with the unit, the memory stick or an SD card.

The Handycam NEX-VG10 is now available in the UAE and will be available in other GCC countries from December 2010 onwards.
