Avnet Technology Solutions has moved to strengthen its HP enterprise business in the region by hosting a series of ‘Storage Academy' training sessions for local resellers.

The special training programme, which it launched in association with HP, has already seen partners in Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia educated on ways to design what it calls ‘efficient' storage solutions.

US-based Avnet claims the explosive growth rate in data usage is creating a shift in the skills that resellers need, with more emphasis now on design efficiency rather than high performance.

As well as tutoring resellers on techniques around data tiering, thin provisioning, data de-duplication, archiving and back-up, the distributor also brought in networking vendor Brocade to outline the latest developments in SAN infrastructure.

"We believe information is key to success, hence we decided to roll out such a unique programme to train and educate our partners to offer the best possible solution at the most competitive price in association with HP and Brocade," stated Jamal Qaffaf, managing director of Avnet Technology Solutions MEA.

Avnet, which took over Magirus' regional HP and IBM division three years ago, is now planning to take its Storage Academy concept to other parts of the region, including Africa.
