Gigabyte's GV-N470D5-13I-B has the undesirable distinction of being one of the most expensive GTX 470 graphics cards we've tested. Can its performance and features make it a worthwhile buy?

Unfortunately the quick answer is no. In terms of features the Gigabyte ships with a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and two free graphics applications. While the former is useful if you want to connect your rig to a HD or Full HD display the applications provide entertainment for about 10 minutes. Other than these two inclusions the Gigabyte is a bone stock offering.

In our Heaven v2.0 benchmark the GV-N470D5-13I-B produced figures of 68.8fps, 46.8fps and 39.8fps at 1024 x 768 pixels, 1680 x 1050 pixels and 1920 x 1200 pixels. The 1024 x 768 and 1680 x 1050 pixel figures are the lowest we recorded in this roundup. The card's H.A.W.X and World in Conflict scores kept pace better with the other cards here but considering the Gigabyte's high price, this is a disappointing performance.

During our tests the Gigabyte's reference cooler, like the Asus and Zotac cards, also went to what seemed like full speed, which made the card very noisy despite being within a closed chassis.

The GPU's peak temperature at this point was a scalding 89-degrees Celsius. If you're planning on buying a GTX 470 graphics card then it's worth checking to make sure your chassis has adequate air circulation.

Verdict: While the Gigabyte GTX 470 returns reasonable performance figures it’s simply too expensive to recommend in this crowd.
