adidas, the official outfitter of the 2011 Dubai Marathon, has come up with a personal virtual coaching tool to accompany users on their runs.

The miCoach Pacer and Zone helps those who are athletes in training or those who just want to lose weight, to improve and track their training performance.

miCoach, launched to coincide with the start of the running season, is an interactive training service developed by adidas, to motivate runners of all fitness levels to reach their training goal.

adidas miCoach is the new frontier in personal training for anyone at any fitness level. As the only device in the market to verbally coach you as you run and analyse your workout when you finish, miCoach is  technologically sophisticated product that is very easy to use," said Eduard Massier, Marketing and Business Development Director at adidas Emerging Markets.

The miCoach system features the miCoach Pacer, which is a small, lightweight device that delivers real-time audible coaching as you exercise, via headphones or combined with an MP3 player. As you run, the virtual coach is designed tell users to speed up or slow down according to pre-programmed fitness goals.

Also in the package is the miCoach heart monitor, designed to work by listening to users' hearts to determine training zone ranges, represented by a colour - blue, green, yellow and red.

The device then ensures the user reaches and maintains their goal heart rate through voice coaching. This works in tandem with the stride sensor, which clips to your running shoes and measures your pace.

"As you build your strength and endurance, miCoach automatically updates your progress and training plan online, so you don't have to worry about doing it manually," said Massier.

On the miCoach website, you can create personalised training plans, set goals and proactively monitor and manage your progress over time. The miCoach platform includes six training plans, ranging from those who want to run faster and improve a personal time, to those who want to lose weight.

The miCoach is available at all adidas retail outlets across the UAE for AED 495 ($133).
