Asus' ENGT240/DI/1GD5/WW is the second GT240 we're received for review.

Like its less expensive GT220 counterpart the GT240 GPU packs DirectX 10.1 support and a VP4 video decode engine. Looking over the Asus' specifications, it is similar to Galaxy's GeForce GT 240 (reviewed in February) because it also features GDDR5 RAM. (GT240 cards can also be fitted with GDDR3 memory.)

Being a stock card the ENGT240 packs the same specifications as Galaxy's GT240, its GPU core runs at 550MHz and its GDDR5 memory runs at 3400MHz. One difference between the two cards is that Asus has fitted its card with 1GB of memory, double the amount the Galaxy has.

The extra memory suggested the Asus should be the faster of the two cards but in testing this just wasn't the case. Starting with Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X the Asus managed figures of 42fps and 27fps at 1024 x 768 pixels and 1680 x 1050 pixels, these figures are identical to the numbers the Galaxy produced.

Moving on to World in Conflict we noticed more of the same, the Galaxy GT 240 scored 37fps and 24fps and the Asus, once again, produced exactly the same numbers. This is somewhat disappointing but we reckon the issue lies with the GPU itself; it simply doesn't have the horsepower to take advantage of the extra memory Asus has fitted.

Verdict: A disappointment because although it features extra memory, it isn't really used by the GT240 GPU.
