With the UAE already deploying extensive fibre optic networks, and other countries in the region planning to do so, Sumitomo Electric Industries, a Japanese company with more than 20 years experience in the fibre optic sector, is particularly upbeat about growth in the region.

Sumitomo Electric Industries, which is one of the biggest fibre optic cable producers in the world, is exhibiting at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK to meet with existing clients and to win new customers, according to Kazutoshi Nonami, General Manager Middle East.

Nonami says that the company is stressing its long history in the sector, and the quality of its passive infrastructure products.

“We started working with NTT in Japan 20 years ago. It means we have more than 20 years experience with FTTH. We make fibre optic cable itself, including glass fibre cable, and all the accessories. We know all about fibre optics – that is our strength.”

A major supplier to Etisalat, Sumitomo Electric Industries is also optimistic about growth in the wider MEA region.

“I believe now the UAE is a very good market for FTTH due to Etisalat and du’s activities, but still, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have also launched FTTH activities, so it is a very good opportunity for us.

“GITEX is a huge show and there are many potential customers coming to our booth, where they can learn about FTTH.”

All of Sumitomo’s products are manufactured in Japan, Nonami adds.
